Dress Code
Our dress code helps dancers move safely, allows instructors to clearly see alignment, and creates a focused classroom environment.
General Guidelines
All dancewear must be clean, neat, modest, and appropriate for movement. No tummies or cleavage showing, no shorts, no low-back leotards, and no boxers or underwear showing.
Loose or large jewelry is not allowed including watches and loose necklaces. For ballet classes, dancers must remove bracelets and hair bands from wrists.
Hair should be pulled back neatly for every class. Ballet students should wear hair in a secure bun unless otherwise instructed.
Early Childhood
Tots & Tutus, Ages 18 months–3 years
Girls: Any leotard or dance dress • Pink tights* • Pink ballet shoes* • Hair pulled back

Pre Combo Ballet / Tap, Ages 3–4

Ballet & Pointe
For all levels, leotards must fully cover the chest, sides, and midriff. Back necklines and cutouts must not extend below the bra line. Plunging necklines, spaghetti straps and sheer panels are not permitted. Shorts may be worn under a ballet skirt only, with tights still required.
Levels 1, 2 & 3

Ballet 3 dancers must wear canvas ballet shoes.

Dancers may wear any color leotard during the last week of the month. All modesty requirements still apply.
Level 5

Warm-ups: Warm-up layers are welcome but need to be removed during class or rehearsal after warm up
Nails: Natural and artificial nails must be well manicured and a safe length for dance. Sharp edges, excessive length, or accessories that could scratch or snag are not permitted.
Jewelry: Large or loose jewelry is not permitted. Including dangling earrings, bracelets, watches, and loose necklaces. Purity rings, wedding rings, and nose studs and rings are permitted.
Compass & SOS Hip Hop
T-shirt or fitted top • Leggings or sweatpants • Hip hop sneakers • Hair pulled back
Hip hop sneakers must only be worn in the studio. Street shoes bring in dirt and can scuff the floor.
Beacon, Anchor, Sails, & Tides:
Attire: Black leotard or fitted black top with black leggings or dance pants. Shorts are not permitted.
Modesty: Dancewear must provide secure coverage throughout all movement. No exposed midriffs, plunging necklines, spaghetti straps, or sheer panels. Back necklines and cutouts must not extend below the bra line.
Hair: Secured in a neat bun.
Footwear: Bring ballet slippers and jazz shoes for Beacon & Anchor. Sails & Tides are required to have ballet shoes and flesh colored dance socks for contemporary work.
*Dancers of color may wear brown tights and/or brown ballet shoes if desired.
